Nicholas Broom– Site Carpentry Level 3 - City of Wolverhampton College

Nicholas Broom– Site Carpentry Level 3

15 Jul 2024

Nicholas Broom trained with the college over 10 years ago to become a carpenter. After having a successful career, he has now returned to the college and is currently training to become a college carpentry lecturer, teaching young people all about his passion.

Nicholas said: “Since leaving college I have set up my own sole trading business with an accountant, where I have completed domesticated and site carpentry roles. I have accepted further training and responsibilities such as Site Supervisor and a Crane Slinger/Signaler. Without the college, I would not have the skills, knowledge or life skills to of had the start I have had in life. The course prepared me with carpentry knowledge as well as management skills to be nominated for a site supervisor role which has been useful on my CV for the next steps in life.

“Last year I decided to give something back and have started working at the college to train to become a carpentry lecturer. This role is working with young people to get where they want to go by supporting them, teaching them new skills and relevant information as well as sharing work/life experiences. Helping students understand the transition from school life to college in preparation for work is very rewarding.

“If anyone is thinking about studying on a construction course and in particular carpentry, I would say to them to absolutely do it! The City of Wolverhampton College is the place to do it as the support and opportunities have been great for me. Just trust the people and the process and you will be fine.”
