In just over four years, Bradley Hughes has gone from being an apprentice at the college to being a supervisor in the department where he did his training!
Bradley, aged 21, said: “I joined the college straight from school in October 2016 and completed an 18-month customer service apprenticeship in the Student Hub, followed by an 18-month business administration apprenticeship.
“After I’d completed my training I was offered a job as a Student Hub adviser responsible for enrolling students on courses and issuing bus passes and ID cards.
“When students returned to college after the first coronavirus lockdown I was based at the Metro One campus in the city centre, responsible for the smooth running of the Student Hub, and was instrumental in showing colleagues how to use a new enrolment system that was implemented in the department over the summer.
“It was then I realised that I liked the added responsibility, so when the Student Hub adviser role was advertised I applied – and was over the moon when I was offered the job!
“When I look back at how far I’ve progressed in just over four years, I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved – the apprenticeships gave me a good grounding in the organisation and experience of lots of different roles within the department, as well as increasing my confidence and teaching me how to conduct myself in the workplace and work effectively with other people.
“Doing an apprenticeship is a good way to get a qualification while you’re doing a job and it will look great on your CV when you’re applying for jobs as it shows employers that you’ve got real-life work experience and the latest industry skills and knowledge.”
