Paediatric First Aid

This course will teach you how to provide first aid if a child is injured or become ill and is aimed at people who work with, or care for young children, and those working towards an early years educator qualification. This includes:

  • people working in day nurseries

  • people working in private nursery schools

  • people working in pre-schools

  • people working in before and after school clubs for children in the early years age group

  • childminders

  • carers of children at home.

We have a 100% success rate on this course and excellent feedback from our students, many of whom have used their skills to gain positions as care workers or progressed to further health studies and become nurses and midwives.

This course is run over two full days.

UPDATED EYFS FRAMEWORK: From January 2024 the latest EYFS changes mean that all staff that hold a Level 2 and/ or Level 3 Childcare qualification since 30 June 2016 in a nursery group and school-based setting must hold a valid Paediatric First Aid qualification to be included in the required staff: child ratios for Ofsted

Please note, the certificate you receive upon completion of this course is valid for 3 years.

There are no entry requirements for this course.

During this course you will learn the following things:

  • Be able to assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take

  • Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally

  • Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally

  • Help a baby or child who is having a seizure

  • Help a baby or child who is choking

  • Help a baby or child who is bleeding

  •  Help a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (hypovolemic shock)

  • Help a baby or child who is suffering from anaphylactic shock and administration of and eppi pen 

  • Help a baby or child who has had an electric shock

  • Help a baby or child who has burns or scalds

  • Help a baby or child who has a suspected fracture

  • Help a baby or child with a head, neck or back injuries

  • Help a baby or child who is suspected of being poisoned

  • Help a baby or child with a foreign body in eyes, ears or nose

  • Help a baby or child with an eye injury

  • Help a baby or child with a bite or sting

  • Help a baby or child who is suffering from the effects of extreme heat or cold

  • Recognising signs of Meningitis

  • Recognising signs of Sepsis

  • Recognising signs of Asthma 

By studying this course you will:

  • Understand how first aid skills are applied in everyday life
