The course will give you the underpinning knowledge and understanding to support the teaching and learning of pupils in schools, enable you to develop the necessary skills to work as a teaching assistant or in a similar role, and assess your competency in the role as teaching assistant in the school workplace environment.
The qualification assumes that you support and work with other members of staff, as well as with children, and are able to act independently in your role - it is therefore strongly advised by the awarding body that you are employed in a school, or work on a voluntary basis.
The course requires weekly attendance at college and therefore it is important that you have the support of the school when applying for the course.
