The study of the mind and how people and animals behave is an exciting and ever advancing science. Are you interested in how Health Psychologists can improve behaviours? Are you interested in conducting scientific research in a psychological area of choice and presenting your findings? If you are fascinated by how the brain works, then this is the right course for you!

This course will teach you about how people interact, how memory works, the influence of the unconscious mind and the relationship between biological processes and psychological functions.

This course is ideal if you are interested in a career as a Health Specialist, Therapist, Behavioural Analyst, Lawyer, Police Officer, Probation Officer, Social Worker or Teacher.

To access this course you are required to have: 

Five or more GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including a 4 in English and maths 

During the course you will study the following modules:

- Psychological Approaches and Applications

- Conducting Psychological Research

- Health Psychology

- Criminal and Forensic Psychology

By studying this course you will gain practical skills and knowledge in the following areas:

Apply and evaluate psychological assumptions and concepts to explain contemporary issues of relevance to society.
Understand research methods and their importance in psychological inquiry
Plan research to investigate psychological questions
Carry out a pilot study to explore current issues in psychology
Review implications of research into psychological inquiry
Explore the use and effectiveness of psychological approaches and theories in relation to explaining health-related behaviour and implementing behavioural change
Understand different psychological approaches to explaining criminal behaviour
Investigate punishment strategies and behaviour modification of criminal behaviour
Apply different methods to create an offender profile

You will be assessed through a combination of internal and external assessment:

Psychological Approaches and Applications - externally assessed through examination (worth 25% of overall grade)
Conducting Psychological Research- internally assessed through assignment work (worth 25% of overall grade)
Health Psychology - externally assessed through examination (worth 33% of overall grade)
Criminal and Forensic Psychology - internally assessed through assignment work (worth 17% of overall grade)
