Sandwiches, cakes and lashings of tea will be on the menu when City of Wolverhampton College hosts a special lunch party for members of the local community.

Guest of honour Professor Martin Levermore MBE, deputy lieutenant of the West Midlands, will join around 50 guests for the lunch at the college’s Wellington Road campus, on Friday, 7 June.

The event has been organised as part of the Eden Project’s Big Lunch initiative which encourages people to get together for a few hours of food, fun and friendship.

The campus’s Study Hub will be decked with bunting, colourful decorations and long tables, transforming the usual quiet library space into a vibrant street party where people can meet others while enjoying lunch provided by the college’s in-house catering team.

Louise Fall, deputy principal of the college, said: “During day-to-day college business we don’t always have the opportunity to say thank you to the many organisations that support us throughout the year, so this lunch is a chance to do just that and show our appreciation for everything they do for our students, our apprentices, our staff and the local community!”

The lunch follows the success of a Coronation Big Lunch last May, held in honour of the coronation of King Charles III, which was attended by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
