From arriving in the UK in 2016 speaking little English, to going to university to do a degree – and being named Student of the Year for business at the college’s annual student celebration event – Sameen Saqib has come a long way in just three years!
Sameen, aged 21, said: “I first joined the college in 2016 to do an ESOL course, moved on to the Level 3 diploma in business in 2017, and progressed to the Level 3 extended diploma in September 2018.
“Education here is very different to in Italy but the tutors supported me and helped me to complete my assignments, as well as helping me with my personal statement and writing a reference for my UCAs application.
“The modules I’ve studied on the business courses have given me a good overview of business and when I studied the accounts and finance module it made me realise that this is what I want to do in the future.
“I applied to four universities and got offers from all of them, and have chosen to do a four-year BCS in Accounts and Finance at Aston University. After completing my degree, I hope to become a chartered accountant or finance manager in the future.
“I’ve loved the last three years here! It’s my dream to be going to university – it’s a huge achievement, my parents are proud of me and I’m proud of myself too!
