A manager at City of Wolverhampton College has been honoured with a national award for the support she provides to students with special educational needs (SEND).
Samantha Jones, the college’s SEND and inclusivity manager, picked up the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) Award at the Dyslexia Awards, held in Ironbridge, on September 24.
She was praised by the judges for going the extra mile to help students become more independent and successful in their studies, and recognised for the work she has been doing with local schools to ensure that they plan for transition to college.
Samantha said: “Doing what I do has always been about making sure people understand that we are who we are and then empowering them to develop the confidence to achieve their goals and ambitions.
“The judges were so impressed at the number of students we are able to support, and I told them I couldn’t do it without the help of my fantastic team and our teaching staff. Without an inclusive all-team approach, our students would never have seen the successes they have.”
