Coming to an Open Day at the college set 17-year-old Danni Dudley on the path to a future career in early years when she signed up for the Level 3 early years educator certificate.
Danni said: “I went along to a couple of Open Days and spoke to tutors who told me all about the course. I was very nervous about coming to college but they explained what my time table would be like, and when I’d go on work placements, so when term started in September I was prepared for what was to come.
“I’m really enjoying the course and I love going on work placements as I can use what I’ve learnt in the classroom in a real work setting, and it’s also helped me decide which age range I want to work with in the future. Initially I was thinking of training to be a teacher or a hospital play worker, but after doing a placement in a nursery I’ve decided that I want to work my way up and become a nursery manager in the future.”
And it’s not only Danni’s career choice that college has helped her with, she’s become much more confident too. Danni added: “I was so shy before I came here but the tutor has been really supportive and encouraged me to get involved in activities with others in the class.
“I’m a completely different person to how I was six months ago now and have even got a part-time job that I can fit around my studying – I would never have had the confidence to do that before and it’s all because I came here!”
