City of Wolverhampton College has been awarded a top national honour for the support it provides to members of the armed forces.
The college has received an Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme gold award in recognition of the support it provides to serving and retired forces’ personnel and to staff who are serving reservists.
To win an award organisations must demonstrate that they provide extra paid days leave for reservists to fulfil their annual service commitments and have supportive policies in place for veterans, reservists, cadet force adult volunteers and spouses and partners of those serving in the armed forces.
Prior to lockdown, as a signed-up member of the Armed Forces’ Covenant – which ensures those who serve, or have served, in the armed forces are treated fairly – the college held monthly forces’ coffee morning at its Academy training restaurant at the Metro One campus in the city centre, and took students studying for qualifications in uniformed public services on visits and residential trips to military units.
