When 17-year-old Emanuela Angelova moved to the UK from Bulgaria six months ago she spoke very little English – but just five months after signing up for an ESOL course her language skills have improved considerably and her confidence has grown too!
Emanuela said: “When I came here I could only say my name or ask for simple directions but I’ve learnt a lot and can speak and understand English much better now. Because I’m able to speak the language my confidence has grown and I’ve been able to make friends which has helped me settle in to my new life here.
“The ESOL course is good as you also learn about England which is important as we live here now and need to understand its laws and culture, and the tutor is really supportive and helps us to learn.”
And having improved her language skills Emanuela has applied to study for the Level 3 diploma in art and design at the college from September and then hopes to go to university to train as an interior designer.
