“I like analysing and looking at markets, and with a business qualification I won’t be restricted to one industry but will be able to work in can work in a range of different sectors,” said 19-year-old Harjot Tiwana who is studying for a Level 3 extended diploma in business.
Harjot added: “I didn’t want to stop on at school after my GCSEs so came to college to do the Level 2 extended certificate in business and progressed to the Level 3 foundation diploma last year, before continuing with the extended diploma this year.
“There’s much more freedom at college, than at school and you can choose the areas you learn, whereas at school it’s very restricted
“The course covers the political and economical influences that affect businesses’ decision-making and the impact this can have and I like the creativity of being able to think outside the box to come up with solution as – there’s not a right or wrong answer if you can back up your options with evidence to justify your decision.
“The tutors give feedback on the work you do for each module and you also do mock exam papers, and it’s an opportunity to see how you’re progressing and what you can do to improve your grade.
“After I’ve completed the course I’m hoping to go to university to do a degree in digital marketing or do a degree apprenticeship – and the skills I’m learning are preparing me for my future career.”
