“Before I joined Prince’s Trust I was feeling really down…and I really wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but when the team leader told me about the course I thought it sounded really interesting and that it was my chance for a fresh start and to meet some new friends,” said 19-year-old John Cook who completed the Prince’s Trust Team programme in Bilston.
Although team members were only able to meet for a week before the country went into the first lockdown, John kept in touch with the course leaders and joined his team-mates when the course re-started in August.
John added: “I really enjoyed my time on the course, especially learning new skills whilst completing our community project at an allotment where we learnt how to create a nature pond.
“And I also really loved my work experience placement at Wood Saints wood dept. The staff there were really supportive, and my placement helped me decide on my future career path – I am now doing voluntary work at the depot to further develop my skills in carpentry.”
Since completing the Prince’s Trust programme, John has started a six-month Kickstart placement at Wood Saints as a further step towards his future career.
