Joshua Cox – Into Employment, Direct Learning Support

14 May 2024

Joshua Cox, age 30, completed the Into Employment programme in August 2023. He was offered an interview as part of the programme to work as a student support worker at the college. Joshua was successful with his interview and is now employed with the college in a full time position.

Joshua said: “I am working at the college as a specialist student support worker in the Horizons department. I support learners with additional needs, working alongside tutors to provide effective support. I liaise with key members of the team to plan what educational and pastoral activities will help the students’ progress into independent learning and further training and educational opportunities.

“The Into Employment programme course gave me the information needed to be confident going into the interview. I was provided information about the different departments, and details about how the college works. Overall, I would say that doing the course gives you a good chance in the interview, but it is on the job where you can shine.

“Doing the Into Employment programme sets you on the right path by giving you information about the interview process to help you develop and succeed. I was unsure about some aspects of the job when I committed to the course, but as soon as I was successful and began working with the Futures team, all those worries disappeared. If you want a chance at doing something that makes a real difference, whilst working in a great team, I recommend doing the course.”
