Lisa Poxon – Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative course

03 Jul 2024

Lisa Poxon started working at Jenks & Cattell engineering in January 2019. Originally from a sales background, Lisa had very little experience in metal presswork, laser cut fabrications and welding. As part of Jenks & Cattell’s focussed training plan, Lisa was given the time and funding to complete an apprenticeship in addition to her degree.

Lisa completed her Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative course here at City of Wolverhampton college, which involved 12-months of on-site learning once a week and completing assignments. As part of the course, Lisa spent several hours on the shop floor and has learned how to operate the robot welding, as well as the use of lean manufacturing techniques and problem-solving tools.

During Lisa’s final assignment she was independently reviewed which involved an observation of her operating the robot weld cell and a professional discussion. Following this, Lisa received the best grade possible of a distinction.

Lisa can now apply her lean manufacturing knowledge to assist lean improvements within her role as Business Sales Executive. She will be able to make use of her technical understanding for the manufacture of metal components and welded assemblies.

Lisa said: “I am looking forward to applying my improved technical knowledge during my day-to-day role within the sales team, and I am grateful for the support in my career development that has been provided by both Jenks & Cattell and City of Wolverhampton College.”
