19-year-old Lucas Burke signed up for the free construction plant operative sector-based work academy programme (SWAP) as he loved the idea of driving plant machinery.
Lucas said: “It’s wonderful that the courses are free as it gives people from every background the chance to attend and make something of their time, especially now.
”I’ve really enjoyed the practical elements of the course and have learnt and developed so much. I’ve become more confident and my communication skills have improved and hopefully it will help me get work in the future and better myself.
“I’ve possibly got some work lined up through a family friend, so hopefully I’ll be able to use the skills I’ve learnt to jump straight into that.”
After successfully completing Phase 2, participants receive a red CPS card allowing them to operate the plant machine that they have learnt to use on-site.
