Coming to college has had real benefits for Mason Danbury, and he’s on track to achieving his goals of achieving his maths GCSE and working in animal care.
Mason, aged 17, has autism and attends the college’s specialist support base at the Wellington Road campus and is supported by tutors from the SEND team.
Since joining the college to do a Futures course in September 2021 , he has become more confident and independent and is now able to attend a GCSE maths class alongside other students and is now enjoying doing work experience at an animal rescue centre.
Mason said: “Everyone at college is really understanding and the tutors have helped me to identify triggers, understand issues that affect me and find strategies to deal with them and minimise the effects.
“My confidence has increased too and I feel motivated to do well in my work experience and to achieve my GCSEs and work in animal care in the future.”
