After completing a Futures programme last year, 18-year-old Mason Freeman-Causer has now progressed to a Level 1 diploma in computing and IT.
Mason said: “Last year’s course taught me skills for the future and how to prepare for coming to college, such as setting my alarm to make sure I get up on time, getting my lunch box ready, and remembering my pens, pencils and water bottle.
“It also made me more confident and not worry about talking to people – I enjoy coming to college now.
“On the IT course I’m learning how to send emails and do presentations, and I’m also doing maths and English as I know it’s important to get good grades.
“We’ve been given an assignment to produce a poster about Friends of the Earth, so we’ve had to learn to work in a team and decide who is doing what. I’ve been doing research and have to feedback to the group on what I’ve found.
“I have a support worker in the class who makes sure I understand what I’ve got to do and checks my work to make sure I’m doing it correctly – my tutor is impressed with the work I’ve sent in so far and says I’m doing well.
“I’d tell anyone to come to college and find out what’s on offer.”
