“I wanted to do something different than the care work I had done before; I wanted a career change. My dad had worked on the railways and inspired me to do this course. The facrt the course is free is amazing because I know it costs a lot of money to put the course on.

“I enjoyed everything about the course; the people, the trainers, its just been amazing. In the beginning, I thought I could never do this, but since finishing the course I now have got so much confidence. I am now able to work alongside trains and on the railway, knowing what to do and how to fix them.

“Now I have finished I am hopeful. I have my first shift coming up soon and I can now see how far this career with take me because it is an amazing job to get into.

“To any future students who want to work in the railways, especially females, I would say don’t ever think it’s a male orientated job or world. I have been told there have been many other females on this course and many other females working on the railways so do not be discouraged. It is never too late to learn a new skill, I’ve started a new career at the age of 40!”
