Since completing the Level 3 in Art and Design in 2016, 26 year old Miya Davies-Patel went onto university and is now working as an architectural designer for an events company.
Miya said: “Since leaving the college, I enrolled at Birmingham City University to study architecture. After obtaining my degree in 2020, I have worked as an architect for a variety of clients including Little Dessert Shop, Costa Coffee, Starbucks, KFC, Poundland, as well as designing exhibition and trade stands in the UK and abroad. My biggest client has been Beam Suntory, which is responsible for big brands such as Courvoisier, Jim Beam, Lucozade and Ribena.
“In my current role at Cool Shock Events, I am responsible for liaising with clients, responding to briefs and meeting budgets. I also design artwork for the brands, create visuals once I have designed their stand, and run and code the CNC machine and laser cutter.
“In the future, I would love to start my own design firm. I have worked in the architecture and design industry now for around five years and have made quite a lot of contacts to be able to make it happen.
“Art and Design Level 2 and 3 taught me skills such as Photoshop and Illustrator, which I now use on a day-to-day basis. The staff and team at City of Wolverhampton College are amazing and work relentlessly to help their students. Without them, I would not be where I am today. I really do recommend this course for anyone who wants a career in the creative industry!”
