18-year-old Blessing Efe Ayaru moved to the UK from Nigeria 12 months ago and enrolled for the entry level diploma in vehicle technology so that he can eventually run his own motor vehicle business and employ local young people.
Blessing said: “I want to be a role model for other young people to look up to. In Nigeria you give your skills to the community and you benefit from that yourself too – and that’s what I want to do here. I want to inspire other young people to learn and give them employment opportunities in the future.
“The course is going really well so far – I particularly like working on engines and learning how to do MOTs and I’m good at welding too. I’m studying English as part of the motor vehicle qualification and have improved a lot – I feel more confident when I’m talking to people and when we’re practicing for interviews in the classroom.”
After completing the entry level qualification Blessing hopes to either combine earning and learning on a motor vehicle apprenticeship or enrol for the full-time Level 1 diploma.
