35-year-old Sona Singh joined the college in September 2020 to improve her maths skills and thanks to the support she received from staff in the specialist maths and English (ME) Hub has gained Functional Skills maths Entry Level 3, Functional Skills maths Level 1 and is now studying for the Functional Skills Level 2.
The ME Hub offers one-to-one support for students who need extra help with their studies and Sona liked how she was able to work at her own pace in the hub and didn’t feel under pressure to keep up with her peers in the classroom.
As Sona’s maths skills and understanding increased her self-confidence did too when she realised what she was able to achieve and, thanks to on-going encouragement from staff in the ME Hub, she has remained motivated to learn and improve and hopes to achieve her Functional Skills maths Level 2 this year.
