Thomas Gibson, 19, is pursuing an exciting career in sports journalism, thanks to the foundations laid during his time on the Level 3 Sport course at City of Wolverhampton College.
Currently studying Football Journalism at the University of Derby, Thomas is in his second year and already gaining valuable experience. He said: “I’m working for Wolves Women on a placement through the university, managing the X account on matchdays, writing match reports, conducting post-match interviews, and providing quotes. I’m also volunteering with the Wolves Foundation as a communications assistant and am a radio panelist at WCR FM for the ‘Wolverhampton Sport’ show. On the radio, I present the latest sports news and explore various sports scenarios, while with the Wolves Foundation, I write more in-depth news pieces on community events and local figures.”
“I credit the Level 3 Sport course and supportive tutors for opening my eyes to the wide range of career opportunities beyond playing or coaching football. That’s when I discovered the Football Journalism course, and I haven’t looked back since! After graduating I hope to secure a permanent role with Wolverhampton Wanderers or work with major organizations like PA Media, Sky Sports, or BBC Sport. Ideally, I’d love to work as a writer or in social media within the sports industry.”
“For anyone considering the course, the simple answer is do it! Don’t even debate it. The course is fantastic, and the opportunities it provides are unbelievable. It was brilliant when I was there, and it’s grown even further since. The support you get from the tutors and coaches, both on and off the pitch, is one of a kind.”
