A time capsule containing City of Wolverhampton memorabilia is set to be buried in the foundations of its new campus.

The capsule – containing prospectuses, photographs, newsletters, articles and other documents showcasing the college’s long history as a further education provider in the city – will be placed in the footings of its new site at the City Learning Quarter in the heart of Wolverhampton.

The metal cylinder, which also contains a message from the college, will be buried on Thursday, September 5, by Louise Fall, principal and chief executive of the college, and two students who are studying for business qualifications at the Paget Road campus.

They will be joined by Councillor Chris Burden, City of Wolverhampton Council cabinet member for city development, jobs and skills, who has written a letter to students of the future which will also be included in the capsule.

The new campus – which is phase two of City of Wolverhampton Council’s City Learning Quarter plan – is due to open for the 2025/26 academic year and will enable the college to move from the out-dated Paget Road site, which opened in 1962 and has been identified as land to build much-needed housing.

Phase one of the plan was the construction of a new £8.1 million Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre at the Wellington Road campus which opened in September for the start of the 2024/25 academic year.

Both sites will transform the learning environment for thousands of students and apprentices, provide modern teaching facilities for staff, and ensure the workforce of the future is equipped with the skills and knowledge required by employers in a range of industries.
