The start of the new year is the ideal time for young people who are due to finish school in the summer to think about their plans and what to do after GCSEs.
But carrying on studying doesn’t mean having to stop on at school – City of Wolverhampton College offers a range of alternative options to enable young people to define their future and gain the qualifications they need for their chosen career.
Vocational qualifications
With over 300 qualifications and industry-standard training facilities, studying at the college will equip students with the knowledge, skills and behaviours that employers are looking for.
Courses on offer include automotive, beauty therapy, business, computing, early years, engineering, hairdressing, health and social care, hospitality and catering, science, sport, travel and tourism and uniformed public services.
Also available are trade qualifications in brickwork, carpentry, electrical, painting and decorating, and plumbing; and creative courses in art and design, graphic design, journalism, media, music technology, photography and performing arts.
A Levels
Studying A Levels at college is a great alternative to school – with more options to choose from, students can select the subjects that interest them and provide the best combination for their future career. And they’ll also have access to wvSixth, the college’s own sixth form centre on the Paget Road campus.
Apprenticeships
For those who want to get on the career ladder and start earning, but also carry-on studying, an apprenticeship will enable them to combine working in their chosen industry with with studying towards occupational standards set by employers. With over 50 apprenticeship standards on offer, it’s a great way to learn on-the-job, gain valuable experience in the workplace and get paid too!
